Purpleheart Turning Stock
Purpleheart (Peltogyne spp.) is an exotic hardwood prized for its brilliant purple color. Its native range is from Mexico to Southern Brazil.
Purpleheart colorings will range from an “electric” purple to a deeper eggplant color. Applying finish will often darken the coloring, and exposure to light will age the wood to a deep purplish-brown.
It is a dense, durable, and rot resistant hardwood that requires working it with sharp tools in order to prevent the release of a gummy resin.
