Oak, White – Quarter-Sawn

Quarter Sawn White Oak is the same species as White Oak (Quercus alba), but is cut with the end grain all running in the same direction. Quarter Sawn White Oak is more stable than standard (flat sawn) White Oak and will have a figure called ‘flecking’ that only occurs when the boards are cut this way. However, because of the selective cuts that quarter sawing requires (logs are cut in quarters before it is sawn), it is a bit more wasteful than flat sawing, and thus incurs a slightly higher price point.
