Satinwood, Ceylon Turning Stock

Ceylon Satinwood (Chloroxylon swietenia) or East Indian Satinwood, hails from Central and Southern India, and Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon from which this Satinwood derives its name.

It is a decay resistant wood that ranges in color from a light gold to a medium orange-gold, and has a lovely natural luster.

Due to its high density and interlocked grain, Ceylon Satinwood is prone to tearout during planing. Regardless, it is a favorite among wood turners, glues and finishes well, and polishes wonderfully.
