Alder grows predominantly along the Pacific coast between Alaska and California. The wood color varies from a near white to a pale pinkish brown. There is no clear distinction between the heartwood and the sapwood. It is moderate in both weight and strength, as compared to other species.
Alder Lumber is generally used in furniture-making. It is also used in the manufacture of sash and door panels along with other millwork.
