Katalox Turning Stock

Katalox (Swartzia cubensis), sometimes called Mexican Ebony, comes from Southern Mexico, Central America, and northern South America.

Katalox’s coloring is dark reddish brown to nearly black and can have a deep purple tone as well. It is common for Katalox to have a wavy or curly grain.

Katalox is a dense wood that can be difficult to work with as it will dull tools and tear out when planing. Its natural oils can make glueing a challenge. However, it does turn well.
