Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis), also known as “buttonwood”, comes from Eastern United States. It has a fine texture that is comprised mainly of its light yellowish sapwood with streaks of darker red-brown heartwood, similar to Maple.

Sycamore is not a terribly durable wood and is susceptible to insects and rot. Because of this, it is used mainly for indoor applications. It works easily and turns well, though it doesn’t respond well to steam bending.
