Walnut, Peruvian

Peruvian Walnut (Juglans spp.) grows in Southern Mexico down through Central and South America.

It is considered moderately durable, but is susceptible to insect attacks. Its coloring is a bit darker brown than its North American Black Walnut cousin, but still can have similar gray-purple, or lighter/darker streaking.

Straight-grained Peruvian Walnut is considered moderately east to work with, but figured boards can tearout during surfacing. It glues, stains, and finishes well.
