Maple, Ambrosia

Ambrosia Maple derives its name from the Ambrosia Beetle that burrows into the standing trees leaving “worm holes” and infesting the wood with a fungus that it carries on its legs. The fungus translates as the irregular reddish-brown and grayish streaks in the lumber.

Ambrosia Maple Lumber is in the Soft Maple family of woods. It is prized for its unique patterns and streaking. Although Soft Maple has a Janka hardness rating between 750 and 900 (depending on the species), count on the hardness of Ambrosia Maple being slightly softer due to the fungus.
